Comedy is by far my favorite TV genre, and I love it when I find a great new show to watch on Hulu or Netflix. Finding a good, and consistent, TV show that makes you laugh every episode and keeps you interested can sometimes take some time, but this year was filled with some great discoveries for me! Below you’ll find a list of my favorite comedy TV series that I LOVE right now, and I know you will too 🙂
1. The Mindy Project
Seasons: 4 (Renewed for a 5th season)
Stars: Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, Ed Weeks, Chris Messina, Garret Dillahunt
Mindy Kaling writes, produces, and stars in her own show! If you remember, she began writing and acting (she played Kelly Kapoor) on The Office in 2004. Being an actor, Kaling has a inside take on what works and what doesn’t on screen. What I love about this show is that it showcases seemingly normal employees working at a doctor’s office, but includes interesting dynamics in relationships and how they navigate through life. It also includes some glam and fashion, which is always fun! 🙂
2. Jane the Virgin
(The CW) 2014-
Seasons: 2 (Season 3 premieres in October 2016)
Stars: Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, Justin Baldoni, Brett Dier, Ivonne Coll, Jamie Camil, Yael Grobglas
Jane the Virgin– dramedy of the year! The show follows Jane, a girl in her early twenties, a practicing Catholic and yes– a virgin! Who then gets artificially inseminated by the father’s sister, who is a recovering alcoholic, and well…it just unravels from there. I don’t want to give away too much, but my favorite part of the show is that it showcases the close relationship Jane has with her family and the value it brings. (Along with all the drama that comes with it) 😉
3. Baby Daddy
Seasons: 5 (Renewed for a 6th season)
Stars: Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Derek Theler, Tahj Mowry, Melissa Peterman, Chelsea Kane, Melissa Peterman
Baby Daddy features a strong ensemble cast, that literally compliment each other each episode. I love the dynamic between the characters, and the ongoing love story. Just like the previous two shows, Baby Daddy showcases an unconventional family, but reveals the beauty of family relationships and friendships.
4. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Seasons: 3 (Renewed for a 4th season)
Stars: Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea, Peretti, Andre Braugher,Dirk Blocker, Joel McKinnon Miller
I love how this series shows how an incredibly serious and potentially dangerous work environment can turn out to be filled with quirky characters and how they fit in together. Another great ensemble cast!
5. Fuller House
Seasons: 1 (Renewed for a 2nd season)
Stars: Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber, Michael Campion, Elias Harger, Soni Nicole Bringas
Oh, the memories! Fuller house is a sequel to the popular sitcom, Full House. What’s great is that they brought back most of the previous characters, just changed up the focus. This show primarily follows DJ Tanner and her new life as a widowed mother of three and her career as a veterinarian– along with the challenges of dating and family that come along the way.
